Re: [IPk] Re Welcome

I was useing protomine zinc insulin for a large number of years, many yeares
ago.To inject it I used two syringes one with the soluable and one with the
p.z. you would only use one needle and swap syringes as mixing the insulins
in one syringe altered the effect they had.
In the old days( I have been on insulin since 1941) a long time.As I
rember it when they had insulin colourcoded as to what type and strength
p.z. was done in half pink, and the other half as to the strength. As I
remeber it was cream for 20units to the cc. green for 40units to cc.and 80
blue.
Another type of insulin that had a twenty for hour action was Globin
insulin.the clour code for this was half gold. I dont think this is made now
although I had it for some years and only needed one injection a day.
In those days we used to have to pay for all insulin and syringes, used to
sharpen needles when they became blunt. And syringes were made of glass and
had a metal plunger with a ring ro make a good seal to the glass and after
some time you would find your syringe would leak a littleand you would have
to take the ring of the plunger and spring it to make a good fit.
Of course after any adjustment or needle sharpening you had to put all
your equipment in a saucepan and boil it for twenty minutes to resterilize
it. Then keep it in methylated spirit until wanted.
Hope this may be of some help
            Michael J.
