Re: [IPk] INPUT insulin pump day, Waterford
hi Hannah
Well there are a lot of disadvantages as well as advantages of the pump!
Being attached to something 24/7 is not everyone's cup of tea!
It is a pain (figuratively, not physically) having to always find somewhere to
put the pump, eg when wearing a dress or doing sport, going on a beach
holiday, etc etc.
For me the one thing that makes the pump worthwhile (ignoring the issue of
control) is that I can take very small correction doses easily (increasing or
decreasing as necessary). e.g. on MDI if I had a BG of 8 I wouldn't do
anything, but on a pump I'll take 0.5 nuits to bring it down a little.
But there are days when I'd love to have the freedom of not being attached to
my pump, much though I love it!
Days when you can't figure out if the high BG is because of a dodgy infusion
set, bubbles in the tubing, a wrong bolus, or just "life". And so on.
