Re: [IPk] Morning BG's

Hi J

I have the same problem - I have yet to work out if my overnight insulin
needs increasing, or if I am experiencing "dawn phenomenon" (where your
blood sugars increase steeply at some time in the morning, even late
morning for some people, and you can't stop this happening). If it is the
latter, then you will be able to time the pump to increase your dosage at
the time your body is having this reaction, so that your blood sugars will
remain stable. The only way to find this out is to wake yourself up at
different times for blood tests to see what time your blood sugars are
increasing, or you can get these monitors from the hospital that you wear
for 48hrs or longer and they continually measure your blood sugars, but
I've heard reports that these are not strictly accurate. If you are just
needing more continual overnight insulin , then you will be able to
increase your dosage with the pump until you discover the correct level,
but you can of course do this with MDI also if you have your background
twice a day.

I don't have a pump yet myself, so someone else can hopefully give info
based on their experience, but this is what I understand.

Best wishes
Hannah
