Hi,
I think you'll find that Pat is correct in this respect. If you look at it
from this point of view, the Human body requires carbohydrates to function -
they provide the energy to muscles etc. If fats and proteins were not able
to be converted to carbohydrates then followers of the Atkins Style diets
would not be able to function! Fats & proteins are converted to
carbohydrates by a process called gluconeogenesis when their is a shortage
of carbohydrate in the diet  with various waste products being produced as
well.

I hope that clarifies it a bit.
