[IPk] Telemedicine presentation in Oxford, Tues. 25 Nov.
All are welcome to attend
'Telemedicine for Diabetes Self-management'
Tuesday, 25 November, 7-8 p.m. (then adjourning to a nearby bar or pub)
Lecture Room XXIII
Oliver Gibson (Lincoln College, Oxford) will give a talk on his doctoral
work in the Oxford University Department of Engineering. Oliver has
connected a blood glucose meter and a mobile phone so that bg test results
can be transmitted to a remote server and then accessed on-line by
clinicians and patients. A clinical trial is in progress under the oversight
of the Oxford Centre for Diabetes, Endocrine and Metabolism. Two of the
doctors and one of the nurses involved in the trial should be in attendance.
Possibilities for the technology to help type 2s as well as type 1s (the
present trial involves only type 1s) will be discussed too.
Oliver does not have diabetes himself. After starting his project, he got
involved with the OUSU Diabetes Network in order to learn more about
diabetes and how it affects people's lives. He even helped with the Diabetes
Network stand at the Freshers' Fair in October. In short, he's lovely.
Please e-mail me off-list (email @ redacted) if you are able to attend. I
will be happy to dispense travel advice, &etc. Perhaps a pre-presentation
bite to eat (c. 5.30 p.m.) would be nice as well?
