Depends how much you value optimal health I suppose. I paid 100 pounds to
see a Harley St diabetes specialist (Laurence Gerlis Tel 020 7935 0113). He
chatted to me for one whole hour - and *listened* to my opinions. Best 100
pounds I'd ever spent I think :-) (The secretary would answer the phone by
saying "hello" without giving away that it was a doctor's surgery... clever
things.) Anyhow, Gerlis approved me for a pump (which I was going to fund
privately in any case) and I continued my standard diabetes care under the
NHS in Bristol. Shortly after that I moved to Germany, where my pump
supplies are now funded by my German health insurance. I picked up most of
my advanced pump knowledge from fellow members of the Insulin Pumpers
mailing list.
