RE: [IPk] Funding

Hey Pat - With the BG Sticks your 2 the Gp funds, I would be inclined to
get your Diabetes Nurse or Consultant to say on this therapy you should
do more than 2 measures (we would recommend 4) to check the pump is
functioning, flow of insulin etc.. On two measures only - it is a very
risky way to find out. I am sure this is opening another can of worms
where the Gp may come back and say - the Diabetes team then have to pay
for the other 2 tests.. Just a thought! Jules :)

My understanding is that going on the pump _might_ cost the GP money (if
the health authority authorise the expenditure, it will come from his
budget).

I have heard of other people with conditions which cost big bucks to
treat being, mysteriously, struck off.

I guess I'm just cynical, expecting the worst, and occasionally
pleasantly surprised!
My previous GP did, after all, refuse to pay for more than 2 bg
measurements per day, my current specialist said I needed a pump in
January, made an appointment to get it in July, cancelled, and if I get
it before the end of the millennium I hearby promise to give 100 to
insulin pumpers!
