Re: [IPk] strip rationing again - v. late response!

hi, i get through a lot of strips and have had problems getting so many in
the past but my present gp is a diabetes specialist registrar and lets me
have as many strips as i need, after suffering a really bad hypo when alone
with my 20 month old and 2 week old baby i felt i needed to check my bg all
the time as i was terrified of it happening again. surely in some
curcumstances you need to test more not just to alter insulin doses etc but
for safety, i was doing around 25 tests a day for a while after my scary
incident, and i now test around 12 times a day mainly for peace of mind, as i
dont want to go hypo when crossing a road with 3 little boys all under 6
years, or when im home alone with my 15 month and 3 year olds!
        love gailxxxxxxxxxx

Insulin Pumpers is made possible by your tax deductible contributions.
Your donation of $10, $25, or more... just $1 or $2 per month is
needed so that Insulin Pumpers can continue to serve you and the rest
of the diabetes community. Please visit:

http://www.insulin-pumpers.org/donate.shtml

Your annual contribution will eliminate this header from your IP mail

Yes, this is very true
But some people vvould deny that you need to, or should modify insulin or
diet. One consultant a fe years ago had a letter from a GP asking : does
this patient on insulin need to test 4 times per day?. He replied that the
patient is quite reasonable to do this in order to reassure himself. Very
patronsing argument really. Implies that diabetes is easy to control and you
you have to do is go to clinic every 6 months and take the dose they tell
you to. No point made about excercise or driving or chzanging shift patterns
etc
