RE: [IPk] mixtard

Hi Barbara

Like Pat and Abigail, I am appalled at the quality of care
being offered at your clinic and would advise that you move.
I know that a lot of clinics recommend mixtard insulin
regimes for children as children tend to have "fixed
schedules". They eat similar things at similar times each
day. If you can get mixtard to work for your child then
great but it is clearly not working as currently prescribed
for Danielle. I cannot imagine what it must feel like to
have a BGM of 33. Anything in the low 20's makes me feel
awful. I appreciate uprooting a child from a clinic is
difficult but my parents used to take me to see specialists
50 miles away by train every 3 or 4 months. I used to look
forward to my days out with my mum. The clinic was a small
part of an enjoyable day of shopping and lunches-out as I
recall with me being the centre of attention (rather than
anyone of my 3 non-diabetic sisters!).

My recommendation? - pump for you (more energy to battle
Danielle's consultant!) and a new consultant or clinic for
Danielle. Honestly you can get much better support than you
are currently getting which is, quite frankly, amongst the
worst examples I have heard.

Best of luck
