In it's defense, I get the feeling the current Glucose Sensor is a
prototype model, pushed out ahead of a more fully developed model for
the home market, which I'm sure is in the pipeline.

I agree. With the arrival of the new generation of people with diabetes,
where you are attempting to normalise and not just control the bg, many
people are better informed and more experienced about optimal strategies
- when they are allowed to exercise independence of thought - than their
so-called diabetes specialists.
