Re: [IPk] Frozen shoulder
Sarah
That's the point - so did my sisters tests. The tests are not definitive. There
is a certain percentage of people that always record negative tests for
inflammation and the RF. Have you seen a rheumatologist? Mine can tell just by
touching the affected joint

Hi Beverley,
I have been tested recently for RA, as I have this constant joint pain, but
tests came back negative - thankfully.
Many thanks,
Sarah

Hi Sarah
This happened to me 9 months ago. I have rheumatoid arthritis but am treated
by
steroid injections when it flares up. No other drugs. I was diagnosed 12
years
ago with a very high rheumatoid factor in the blood. My sister, who has it
far
more severely and takes a cocktail of drugs with a variety of operations, did
not have a raised rheumatoid factor, when she was diagnosed. It can be hard
to
diagnose. My joint pain is usually in the balls of my feet (walking on
concrete
can be painful), ankles and fingers. 9 months ago however I woke up with
excruciating pain in my shoulder. I could move it in some directions pain
free
but in others I would almost vomit with the pain. I thought it was frozen
shoulder but rheumatologist said it was another RA attack (inflamation of the
capsule) and fixed it with another steroid injection. It has not bothered me
since.
Regards
Beverley

Hi Nanette,
I agree with you - lets hope its not frozen shoulder... But I have been told
that sometimes sufferers only realise that they have it when the pain becomes
very bad and that they may have lived with it until the point where it is
unbearable. I must say I do suffer with joint and muscle pain generally, that
no-one can get to the bottom of, but it is more like a constant ache rather
than the pain I am feeling right now, so maybe my usual joint aches could
have
hidden the shoulder problem as it was developing - just a thought.
I really haven't ever felt pain like it and I am have more than my fair share
of painful injuries over the years...
Did yours ache all the time, but become much worse when you used it in a way
that was restrictive - like getting dressed etc?
Thanks for your advice, Nanette, I will keep you posted!
Sarah

Hi Sarah,
First of all sympathy for your pain.
As a former frozen shoulder sufferer (I've had it twice) I would
question if this is indeed frozen shoulder, though can't rule it out.
Apart from anything else in my experience frozen shoulder did not
start suddenly from one day to the next, but rather the pain got worse
slowly and relentlessly over a period of weeks, remained severe,
particularly bad at nights, for months, then gradually started to get
better. It was always less painful in the water - hot showers, and
also swimming, really helped, though if I were to accidentally to bump
into anyone or anything in the pool, even slightly, the pain was
indescribable.
best of luck
Nanette
