Re: [IPk] Re: Burden's Response

And I've sent this letter to the BDA's magazine, Balance:

>Dear Sir
>I have received a letter from Dr Felix Burden informing me that "in
>general, there is no evidence that pump therapy is preferable to
>separate injections". He goes on to suggest that the quality of life,
>freedom from hypos and the good blood sugars I have enjoyed since
>going on a pump 2 years ago mark me out as an "individual exception".
>I am concerned that Dr Burden may be overlooking the large body of
>published medical evidence supporting pump therapy. I am even more
>concerned that he is chairing the BDA's committee preparing a policy
>document on pump therapy.
>Now that the battle for free pen needles is won, I call on the BDA to
>campaign for the free provision of all treatment methods within the
>NHS. The current position is unacceptable: suitable candidates may
>often only enjoy the benefits of pump therapy when they can find for
>themselves the 1000 a year running costs. This is not the right way
>for diabetes care to be distributed in our nation.
>Yours faithfully
>John Neale
