RE: [IPk] artificial sweetners

Hi Patrick

I think as Melissa said you have to put everything in to context.

Aspartame has been in regular use for 25+ years first discovered in 1965.

The other long term artificial sweetner with zero calories is Saccharin
discovered in 1879 which has been shown to be cancerous in rats.

The polyols first used in the mid 1970s have their problems too (Isomalt,
Lactitol, Mannitol, Sorbitol, Xylitol etc). In larger doses they can cause
bloating and diarrhoea. They are not carbohydrate free nor calorie free - so
may need to be counted. Xylitol has been proven to be fatal in not very
large quantities in dogs - as little as the quantity in a few pieces of
chewing gum!

And Sugar its self has problems that many people are aware of.

Adrian
