[IPk] bleeding and me

Hi Tim
The very first time I put in the first infusion set was initially fine then
when i went to take it out it bled similarly to your description and it was in
front of my then DSN, a medtronic representative and my then dietician. I stood
there while it kept bleeding and slowly asked.."Is that supposed to happen?".
There was silence for a split second then my dietician ran to get me some
tissue and we just figured it was a capillary I'd hit when I'd inserted it.(That
Quickserter is a bit vicious sometimes!!) Its happened once since but I
personally think it may just be an unlucky shot like it would be if using an
insulin pen etc. Though the cannula and needle appear to be wider. I don't
believe its necrobiosis because I have this condition for 24yrs, been on the
pump for 1 yr and there is no sign of necrobiosis at any of the sites and so
don't panic. Necrobiosis lipoidica (diabeticorum) is very rare and particularly
seen in women. Also you don't have to be diabetic to get it which is why
diabeticorum is in brackets). If in any doubt ,get your doctors at the hospital
to check all sites to reassure you. Hope this helps and hope you feel better.
Vanessa
