I don't buy the Electrostatic argument. Anyone who works with PC boards /
cards will already know that the earth you have through an ESP band contains
a 2M ohm resistor so that the field collapse doesn't zap the chips(and to
protect the wearer). If you had an ESP problem and you washed your hands and
grabbed a tap for example you would have just caused worst case scenario for
the board.
