Combined Glucose Monitor and Insulin Pump Approved by FDA

WASHINGTON (Reuters) Jul 07 - U.S. regulators on Monday approved a new 
diabetes device that combines an insulin pump with a glucose monitor, a Food 
and Drug Administration spokeswoman said.

The device pairs Medtronic's Paradigm insulin pump with a Becton Dickinson 
glucose monitor and facilitates data exchange between the two, the 
spokeswoman said.

In a statement the FDA said that approval to market the device was based on 
"the safety and effectiveness of the separately marketed components and on 
reviews of the new device configuration, the software, and usability studies 
and electromagnetic interference compatibility testing conducted by the
