Re: [IPk] Meter accuracy between Manufacturers
Thank you Loretta and to every one else who has replied. All comments
and information received are very helpful, even if they do not directly
answer the question.
I guess I am hoping someone will tell me that they have also
experienced this sort of thing, and that their Optium Xceed meter was
in fact running too high, the manufacturer replaced it for a new one
which read lower, (nearer to that of my One Touch), then I would have
the answer! This may be unlikely in reality, but unless I ask, I won't
know what experiences other people have had.
I did find your comment made by your DSN that Optium Xceed 'gave the
most consistently accurate results' very re-assuring. Thank you for
that.
Like you, I shall be watching out for more replies with great interest!
Regards
Anna

Subject: Re: [IPk] Meter accuracy between Manufacturers
I am a bit unsure weather I can give any help on the subject, but as
far as I am aware the Optium Exceed Meter has it's strips individual
wraped in foil.B
Most other meters have strips in pots and are loose.B
If you read the PIL (Patient Information Leaflet) some meters will
state that inaccurate results can/will be obtained under certain
circumstances.B
B
I work in a Hospital Pharmacy, and the only m
eters used Trust wide are
the Optium Meters.B
B
I asked the DSN at the hospital why that was. She told me it was
because they gave the most consistantly accurately results.B
B
I am a 2 meter girl. I use the Accu Chek Aviva, but also have an Optium
Exceed. The Aviva is good because it comunicates with my PDA, as Does
my Pump.B
B
The Optium Exceed is good for checking Ketones.B
B
I find both of the excellent, but have never compared readings. - I
think I will do that One Day!! -B
B
I feel that after a posting quite a while ago, I mentioned the fact,
that like a car regular checking of your meter isB
'Good Practice' - I still stand by that. I did find that previously I
could tell the doctor what I expected my HbA1c reading to be - just by
checking through meter results. I check my blood sugar at least 8 times
each day and can more or less work what my HbA1c reading will be by
using a tool on the website.B
B
I suppose - as said at the beginning - this may not be of any help. I
feel that anybody that relies on information, as we as diabetis do -
should have accurate information to work on. As you say a difference of
more that 2.5mmol is quite a high percentage - even more so if you
target for somewhere on the region of 4-5mmols.B
B
I will be watching out for more replies with interest.B
