Re: Lein Applied Diagnostics was RE: [IPk] New way to test BG (rumour)

Hi John,

They can't really block a non-invasive meter from hitting the market, but
what they can do is cast aspersions on its accuracy if there is any room for
questioning the data. What they *are* doing is developing continuous
monitoring systems that they hope will get replacement labelling and will
generate income in the West. For any of the continuous monitoring systems,
at least 1x/day fingerstick calibration will always be required _unless_
some major shift in technology occurs. So it's not like fingersticks are
about to be obviated anywhere anytime soon.

And, let's face it, very few type 2s will be ideal candidates for continuous
monitoring and there are a heck of a lot more of them than there are type 1s
in the world. The meter companies are trying to expand their market share
among type 2s (which is actually good for the type 2s as most of them really
don't test enough) and they are rolling out products especially for
developing countries, the Lifescan Horizon meter in India, for example.

While the West is rich, the developing world is a larger market and we all
know that volume is key in making a profit....

It's not all about the Western hemisphere!
