Hi Vic -

Lantus is a new insulin made by Aventis. They have a special website about
it at

The insulin also has a technical name: glargine.

Apparently it's not yet on general release in Britain - that's expected
later this year - although it was released in the US last year.

It is claimed that one injection of Lantus each day will give an absolutely
smooth even release over the next 24 hours - much like a steady basal rate
on an insulin pump.

The trouble with existing long acting insulins is that they have a tendency
to peak some hours after injection, and then tail away. So you don't get a
steady basal rate.
