RE: [IPk] 37 year old male scared of needles????????

Hi Ingrid

I live on the Berks/Surrey border and yet am seen at Guys in
London. I did not appreciate that an out of area referral
was so difficult. I simply said to my GP that I wanted to be
seen at St Thomas's and he agreed. When I expressed an
interest in a pump, my consultant at St Thomas's referred me
to Guys. My GP has his own weekly diabetic surgery but did
not seem upset that I chose to go elsewhere. Indeed he once
told me that he would not refer any of his family to two out
of my three local hospitals were they to become diabetic.

I once had a very poor GP when I was a student and I found a
better one and asked to change. It took some form-filling
but was quickly achieved. If all else fails you could try
that (having found a sympathetic one first).

Best of luck.

Bev
