[IPk] eye photographs - maculopathy

Hi Everyone

I had my eyes photographed in mid-December.
The nurse said there was something wrong"
but she would have to let the consultant see the picture before she could
tell
me anything more. Two rather anxious months later and
several phone calls chasing and Ive finally received a letter telling me that
I
have maculopathy (spelt wrong?).

The letter didnt say much that was useful.
It said that some loss of vision would
occur as this was the part of the eye used for read etc. And that gentle
laser treatment may be
necessary.

Have to wait for a follow up appointment. God knows when that will be seeing
as it took
them 2 months to actually get round to sending me this letter in the first
place!

Im kinda scared by all this. And have a few questions I was hoping someone
here could answer. (I could call the eye
clinic but they have been useless so far and I suspect I'll get better answers
here)

Is loss of vision inevitable?
Will it happen whether I have laser treatment or not? How quickly? Does
the laser treatment fix what has happened so far or does
it just stop it getting any worse? How does gentle laser treatment vary
from strong/hard treatment? Will my sight get worse if I have to wait 6 months
on the NHS
to get to see a consultant/have treatment? How do I stop it?! I know good
control is the key, but my control hasn't been that bad. My HBA1C has
improved in the last year, and I go high a bit, but never run continuously
very high. I've been diabetic for about 25 years now, is it just inevitable?
