Welcome to the real world. Really frustrating isn't it?

I sometimes think that specialists with diabetes themselves make
particularly bad advisers, since they will be biased into thinking that
what works for them must work for you too.

When I was "testing the water" I stepped outside the usual system and saw a
private specialist in London. Cost 100 pounds I think. Doing this gave me
the confidence to take charge of the situation. I then went back to my NHS
clinic and they were delighted with my improved control. But, sorry, no
