Re: [IPk] pump costs



The figure of 5 a week is not an actual reduction in the costs of therapy.
Our estimate is that the weekly costs of the disposables and accessories is
in the region of 12 to 14. However this is somewhat balanced by a
reduction in other costs (Insulin, pens, needles etc) which is where the 5
figure comes from. This means the true cost is reduced to 7 to 9 per week,
but it is still an additional cost when compared with injection therapies.

The real savings are in your health and well being.

Wendy mention the dreaded VAT, but you should all be aware that as people
with diabetes you are all exempt from payment of VAT for your related
supplies.This is also true if a registered charity purchases these items. We
only have to charge VAT where the pumps and supplies are purchased by the
hospital.
