Re: [IPk] False HBA1c results !

Hi Martin

Unfortunately there is no one specific method for measuring HbA1c in
laboratories, and this will make a difference. Recent years has seen an
but there is still no agreement on how or what to measure. A few labs still
test HbA which is not as specific as HbA1c, but each lab should have there own
reference range.

But to answer your specific problem, I would trust the result from the
Diabetes clinic (Hope) since the blood is tested in an accredited lab that does
quality control testing everytime they run an HbA1c assay. In addition, this
is also a member of NEQAS which regularly sends samples with known values (but
unknown to the lab) to member labs for testing so that the lab can be certain
that it is getting correct results. By the way Martin, where does your GP get
their bloods tested?
