Re: [IPk] urgent info request re: children

Cool it, Elizabeth! You of all people should know that the sky has not

What strikes me is that all your questions about 'is this diabetes or
something else' will be fully answered within 12 hours.

As for asthma and eczema, this isn't steroid induced diabetes, which is
typically type 2, and is related to large doses of oral steroids. Certainly
as part of the child's glucose control, the doses should and will be looked
at, but remember these are useful medicines, and important for the
well-being of the child with asthma.

Your concern about self-efficacy can wait, and realistically is the domain
of the child's parents! Please resist the natural urge to transfer your own
priorities onto them. A question that is of value, in Ireland, is where do
the family live? If in Dublin or Cork, all is well. To be honest, most of
the country's kids with diabetes go to these centres anyway.

Almost certainly the child will come home on twice daily mixes, and will do
well for the first couple of years.

Finally, I say to young people with diabetes these days, that they do not
have to face a lifetime with diabetes, and the priority is getting to the
cure, whenever available but surely within 7 years now, as well as possible.
In your cousin's case, that will be a doddle!
