I am aware that I went about this in a very unorthodox way, but when I
returned to my NHS clinic in Bristol and said "By the way, I now use this
thing called an insulin pump", I was immediately rushed in to see the head
consultant, instead of one of his junior underlings I normally saw. He used
me as a great learning opportunity, gave me his home number so I could ring
him if I had trouble, and he is now thinking of starting a specialised pump
centre in Bristol.

So Pat, you may in fact be providing an opportunity rather than
blacklisting yourself.
