It has been mentioned before that insulin can sometimes cause the opposite - 
an increase in the hair growth hormone causing hirsutism in women - (backed 
up by the wonderful wikipedia) - indeed in Alice, her hair (on head) grows 
at a fantasically fast rate and she is booked into the hairdressers every 5 
weeks for a full cut (not trim)!!

I know this doesn't help your enquiry, but thought it might be interesting 
to share anyway :)
