Re: [IPp] Problem with infusion set

I also use the silhouettes for my son and my husband. The both of them are
very thin. Even my husband could not use the 90 degree angle sets.
Disetronic has tender minis, which is the silhouette but they are shorter.
Very good blood sugar control using these sets.

Charlene,
Dan is very skinny, can't do abdomen sites at all. We were told
Silhouettes
would be best and we have stuck with them (no pun intended). They go in
at
a 20-30 degree angle. They do have a long inserter needle and the
insertion
device is biggish and makes a loud click. It made Dan and me both pretty
nervous the first couple of times.

We do only butt sites--upper and outer part--for the person who asked about

these, you do have to avoid the belt line and also keep it up high enough
so
that the child isn't sitting on it. Once in a while Dan does thighs to
give
the butt sites a rest, or if he has to do the insertion himself.

We don't use a numbing cream. We do have Dan lie on the bed on his
stomach
watching tv while I do the site change. Distraction helps the kids relax
in
my opinion. Also, with the Silhouettes, for us at least, if the site
hurts
it almost always means it is in too deep or too shallow and will be a bad
site. I just change it right away now if it is painful upon insertion. If
it
goes in right it does not hurt.

If Charlie is nervous about trying again, do you have a reward you could
offer him? Sometimes a little bribe can get you over the hump, imo.

Hope some of this helps. When we started it took us about 45 minutes to
change a site and Dan and I would both be sweaty and nervous by the time
it was
done. Now it's 10 minutes tops. Hang in there, it will get better.
