[IPp] RE: little ones testing and bolusing

HI Toby,
My daughter Gen was dx'd at 13 months, and started pumping at age 4 1/2.
She started doing her own BG testing at about that same time. Bolusing
thru the pump (with supervision) she started doing consistently at age 6
when she started 1st grade. She also was reading the food nutrition
labels for serving size/carb count. (That was quite an incentive to
improve her reading skills!) Now at seven, she also does her own bolus
calculations and any low/high BG corrections herself (again, with
supervision). She keeps a small calculator with her supplies in the
nurse's office at school to double-check her math.
Hope this helps,
Paula, Mom to Gen (age 7, dx'd @13mths, pumping since 4 1/2) and James
(age 11, non-D)
