I sympathize with you!. My son is in the 7th grade, dx 4/2/01 and it was a
battle, sometimes still is.  Yes, she does need a 504 plan and you need to
have everything spelled out in it.  Otherwise she won't get what she needs.
If need be, enlist the help of your Endo or CDE.  I think it's a little
harder when they're diagnosed at an older age.  My son was diagnosed with
Celiac at 3 yrs and it's been no problem for him to deal with, but the
diabetes has been a much bigger challenge and harder for him to deal with.
Good luck!  We have to keep on fighting for our kids or noone else will.
