[IPp] Wait a year for a pump?

Date: Sun, 21 Jul 2002 10:08:49 -0400 From: "Mary Beth" <email @ redacted> Subject: [IPp] help convincing endo "Our endo told us that we had to be diagnosed for a year before we could get a pump. " Man, you guys, this "they need to wait a year" garbage from endos just makes me see red! Mary Beth, I applaud your tenacity in getting Catie a pump ASAP! We have one kid endo team here (in Anchorage, Alaska) and they told my friends (two different families) that all kids need to wait at least a year so "they can experience diabetes without a pump so they'll appreciate the pump more." Hogwash! My friends told them as much, and the kids were pumping within a few months. Your list of reasons is well thought out and true. Here's an additional reason for her to get a pump: SHOTS HURT! Write to me if you want more help. Getting off my soapbox now... :~) Blessings,Alaska DebbieMom to Katie, 11, dx'd 9/97 andpumping with "Pumpkin" since 8/99
