[IPp] taking pump off for sports

My 11-year-old likes to remove her pump when she participates in sports. She
fears being hit in the abdomen (her favorite site) with a volleyball,
basketball, or softball. I know that if her sugars are okay, it is acceptable to
leave the pump off for a short time. We butted heads today when I insisted that
she wear the pump during pitching practice, where she wouldn't be hit by a ball
because she is the one throwing it! (She did wear the pump but with a great show
of eye rolling and huffing) How do those of you with kids heavily involved in
athletics handle this? I told her that the if she wants to leave the pump off we
may just go back to shots.....I may also add that she is doing a great job of
checking sugars by herself, counting carbs, doing her own site changes with
minimal assistance. Is she being a pain in the neck or is she managing her
diabetes?
