[IPp] Re: low carb tortillas

Is anyone else that's trying low carb lifestyle finding that you still have
to bolus for the total carbs and not the net carbs? If we subtract the fiber
from the total carbs and bolus like Atkins says we go high. We still have to
bolus total carbs. It makes you wonder with everyone saying Net carbs is all
that
affects blood sugar and insulin levels?? While skiing in Colorado last week I
found Mission Low carb white and wheat tortillas! They taste great and we
were excited that Jake wouldn't have to take a lot of insulin for them, but he
went high after eating fajita's made w/ them and only bolusing for the Net
carbs. He ate the same meal w/ them later and bolused the total carbs w/out
subtracting the fiber and did fine. At first I was kinda upset and felt like I
had
gone to a lot of trouble to bring a whole lot of these home from 20+ hours away
to find they weren't really low carb for Jake and us, but then I thought about
how much fiber we were getting in them and decided they weren't so bad! A
large white flour tortilla had 17g of fiber and the large wheat tortilla had
21g
of fiber! They taste great and we would have to eat a lot of bowls of cereal
to get the same benefits.
Also, I found boxer's w/ pockets at a Big K out there!!! They are
really Joe Boxer sleep shorts and we just pull the drawstring out. They still
have
the wideband of Joe Boxer elastic to hold them up and look and feel just like
boxers! Best of all they were clearanced for $5 a pair! If you have a teenage
diabetic son, you can imagine how excited we got about this! It's not very
cool to run around the house or locker room w/ the guys and not have Joe
Boxers!
They are great and we have enough to last till Jake13 is thru w/ college!!!
