[IPp] Swimming

Hi Barb-

Here is what Logan (also 10 & pumping since Jan. 2002) did when he had swim lessons in Feb.

*TEST 20-30 MINUTES BEFORE swimming:

IF 160 250: disconnect pump. If 130 - 159: EAT 1 REESES PB CUP(24 carbs), then disconnect pump. IF 100 129: EAT 2 REESES (48 carbs), then disconnect pump. IF 80 99: EAT 3 REESES (72 carbs), then disconnect pump.* IF BELOW 80 OR ABOVE 250: CALL MOM.* *WHEN DONE, DRY OFF, RECONNECT PUMP AND TEST IMMEDIATELY:

IF 130 - 150: leave pump as usual. IF 80 129: Lower basal setting by .2 for 1 or 2 hours. IF BELOW 80: TREAT IMMEDIATELY and Lower basal setting by .2 for 1 or 2 hours. IF OVER 151: BOLUS ACCORDINGLY.

I also had his teacher assign one of his friends to "help" Logan remember to follow these directions. I printed out 3 copies: 1 for the teacher, 1 for Logan & 1 for his friend.

I hope this makes sense to you and helps.

Patti (mom to Logan, dx'd @4, pumping 4 months)
