[IPu] United Nations Set to Vote on Stem Cell Ban

Hi All,
I received this via an American Diabetes Assn email today. You may wish to
add your vote to this list, not to ban therapeutic cloning. I am not sure
what the implications of a UN vote would be ?
Regards,
Janette

Urgent Action Alert

This Friday, the United Nations will vote on a resolution that
will ban all forms of cloning, including therapeutic cloning, which is
a type of stem cell research.

On Friday, November 19th, the Legal Affairs Committee of the United
Nations General Assembly will vote to ban all forms of cloning, both
reproductive and therapeutic.

Recently, voters in California passed Proposition 71, which funds stem
cell research up to $3 billion over 10 years. The American Diabetes
Association believes that the majority of Americans want stem cell
research to continue. The passage of the UN resolution would
undermine this and any other efforts to actively promote and protect
stem cell research.

Sadly, the United States is one of the countries leading this
effort to ban therapeutic cloning and is a prime sponsor of this
resolution.

Tell the United Nations to ban reproductive cloning but allow for
therapeutic cloning. By taking action, you will help demonstrate
the large number of individuals who support innovative medical
research to cure and alleviate disease.

THIS ACTION ALERT IS OPEN TO OUR INTERNATIONAL DIABETES ADVOCATES AS
WELL.
