I think it depends on how fast your blood sugar is dropping.  It 
 wouldn't do at all for a drop of 100 in half an hour (yes, I've had 
 them), but would probably work fine for drifting down.  One of the 
 major reasons I want to see real-time monitors--not so much the 
 current level as how fast it's dropping.  Remember that simply 
 turning off the basal takes around an hour to take effect.  Glucose 
 tabs on an empty stomach take 15 minutes for most of us.
