Boil the water. Sometimes I add a pinch of salt but usually I don't remember.
When the water boils, add the oats and stir it for a minute or so. I rarely
wait a minute, I just stir it a few times. Cover the pot with a lid, turn off
the heat and just leave it sitting on the stove overnight. In the morning all
the water will be absorbed and the oats are ready. I reheat one serving in a
bowl in the microwave and put the rest in the fridge. I usually weigh my final
product because sometimes there are differences, usually because I added a
little more or less water than usual. I put my storage container on the scale,
zero it, add the oats. I divide that by 5 and I know how much to weigh out for
breakfast each morning. It's usually somewhere in the range of 300g per serving
(the weight, not the carbs!!) if I measure the water carefully. Sometimes I'll
separate the portions into individual containers right away.

This morning, for example, I had golden raisins in my oatmeal. The 50g (dry
weight) of oats have 34g of carbs according to Calorie King. I added 23g of
raisins, 12g of ground flax, 2 packets of Equal and some cinnamon. According to
Calorie King the final totals are:

329 calories
8g fat
56g carb
9g protein
9g fiber
