There are actually several companies around the world working on this
technology. There is a company here in Albuquerque developing similar
devices. A actually recruited a friend of mine for them as a Labview
programmer. They are currently working on the surgery device which monitors
diabetics continuously during surgery, but the smaller personal device will
be next. Based on what he has told me I don't think we will see anything
readily available for a few more years yet. They are very close and
hopefully the drug companies don't sabotage the implementation, since this
will reduce the need for test strips and they can't continuously make money
from us.
