Ketone bodies are largely beta-hydroxybutyrate and acetoacetate. These are
formed in the liver and kidneys from the breakdown of fatty acids and a few
amino acids

- DKA is a complex disordered metabolic state characterized by hyperglycemia,
acidosis, and ketonuria. DKA usually occurs as a consequence of absolute or
relative insulin deficiency that is accompanied by an increase in
counter-regulatory hormones (ie, glucagon, cortisol, growth hormone,
epinephrine). This type of hormonal imbalance enhances hepatic
gluconeogenesis, glycogenolysis, and lipolysis.

- With any of the low carb diets, when you are not consuming enough
carbohydrates, your body will start to use the fat stores that it has to
produce energy, which in turn cause ketones to be produced.

- In both the low (to none) carbohydrate diets and DKA, the body's cells can
not get the glucose from what is (or what is not) ate, so it turn it forms
