Well, if low insulin were a reason for low lipids, then newly diagnosed Type
1's should have low lipids, but the fact is that their lipids are usually
sky-high at diagnosis.

Coronary artery disease is a definite risk for both Type 1's and Type 2's,
but it has not been shown to be caused by hyperinsulinemia (co-occurrence
does NOT imply cause and effect). There is, however, some evidence that it
is caused by hyperglycemia!

Unfortunately, the participants in the DCCT were too young to have shown
much coronary artery disease, so much remains unknown about its relationship
with diabetes.
