RE: [IP] How long for a pump?

I consider myself very lucky. My employer recently changed our health
insurance to an HMO. I figured I didn't have a prayer. Then I found out that
this HMO was founded and is run by practicing physicians here in Kentucky.
When I called the HMO and inquired about their requirements for getting a
pump I was immediately assigned a caseworker who called me back within the
hour. She said have my doctor write a prescription and they would get me my
pump. I have since found out that when this HMO started operation the pump
supplier held several seminars for them educating the caseworkers on the
benefits of pumping. The caseworkers are now enthusiastic about pump
therapy. It's almost unbelievable. The pump supplier told me a story of
another person wanting a pump whose insurance carrier is balking because her
control is not bad enough on MDI. I'm so thankful I'm not having these
problems. This is what I expected and was shocked when it turned out to be
so easy. My last 5 HBA1Cs have all been under 7 so I figured this would
count against me but it didn't.

Thanks for the information.

I hope you have as much luck as I did in getting my pump.

I have Foundation Health of Florida and my endo told me it usually takes
8-12
weeks for her to get approval for the pump. I had mine and had already
starting the infusion within 3 weeks of the request!

Good Luck!
Cindy
