Generally the approval means if you do not get the approved item or med
before the expiration of the approval, you will need to get another before
you proceed.  If you get the pump before the first approval times out, you
will be fine.  My insurance does require a perscription for pump supplies,
test strips, etc. be submitted every 6 months, but it is always approved.
