Re: [IP] Re: How to get Insulin at a Cheaper Price
Firas - you can also buy medications with no prescription in Central
America and other parts of Europe as well, as long as it is not a
narcotic. The idea of needing a prescription for maintenance drugs, like
insulin, is stupid. It perpetuates the circle of insurance, doctors (and
his staff), pharmacies. Everybody has to make a profit at each stage.
Jeffrey - if it weren't for a kind friend who gives me her surplus insulin
(Humalog), I would not be able to afford it. Costco offers a slight
discount for people with no insurance, but it is still a lot of money. I
also asked Walmart why I could buy Humalog in Panama (for example) at
$50/vial, when I have to pay over $130 (this was four years) here in the
US. The poor fool told me that it was because of all the innovations that
were taking place in the medical world in the US. Well, if you read the
news in medicine, there is a lot of research going on in Europe, India and
other places. The fact of the matter is we (our country) are subsidizing
other parts of the world who could not otherwise afford insulin or other
medications. Frankly, it irks me that we are so passive (I now I was when
I had insurance). We just assume the insurance will pay for it, so why
fight for prices?
