[IP] Paradigm Link Strip Problems
Hi,
I carry my Paradigm Link meter using a clip on a belt loop. I always have an
extra vial of strips with me. I used all of my strips in the first vial last
night at work, and grabbed the second vial out of the zippered mesh thingy
in the meter case. The vial had popped open and one strip fell out sometime
while it was in the meter case. I used that strip to test and it read
215mg/dl. I figured that was a little high so I took another one out of the
opened vial and put it in the meter. Ooops, I forgot to recode it. I recoded
it and tested. I got 225 this time. Okay, so I bolused a correction.
I wasn't feeling that I had a high blood sugar. I actually was beginning to
feel low. I tested again in a couple of minutes. It was 200. I didn't feel
right so I grabbed my backup meter that I keep at work. It is a BD Paradigm
Link as well. I used the backup meters vial of test strips and checked to
find my blood sugar was 67. I used the backup meters test strips in my main
meter after recoding, and it read in the sixties as well. I recoded the
backup meter to the opened vial I got the high readings, on and used those
strips and tested in the 200's again. Wow! Now that is a big difference.
Apparently those strips cannot tolerate being opened too long at all. I've
heard a guy on this list say he puts some opened One Touch strips in his
pocket and tests with those throughout the day and gets good readings.
Another guy said he uses One Touch that he keeps in his car in the
summertime and gets good readings. I'm kind of glad BD is getting out of the
meter business. I know that I shouldn't have used the opened vial, but it is
still scary.
I have had several replacement meters and replacement strips from BD since I
started using the Paradigm Link about three months ago. Now they are sending
2 more replacement meters and strips. Good customer service yes, but the
product being able to handle a customer's goofy handling errors, like One
Touch, no.
Anyway, does anyone know who will be manufacturing the replacement Paradigm
Link, and when will it be available?
Hmmm . . . I bolused in the 60's . . .I coulda killt meself. Good thing I
carry a vial of glucose tabs in the meter case to. Hey, that's what probably
popeed open the vial of test strips. Go figure eh?
