Re: [IP] Re: Warning to anyone considering an Accu-Chek Spirit Pump

I just got the Spirit pump and after reading some of the posted comments, I
thought I would interject my thoughts. First, the Spirit has a 6 year life,
not 4 years. The pump has a day counter on it so I can see exactly how much
life is left in the pump. With the speed at which new technology is coming out,
in 6 years, I will want newer technology and insurance companies won't have
the excuse that since my current pump is still functioning, they won't replace
it until it "dies".

I was told by the Disetronic pump support that the company is required to
attempt to get the old H-Tron and D-Tron pumps off the market due to their
agreement with the FDA. If I refused to send in my old pump, all I that was
asked
of me was write a letter stating I refused to send in my old pump. My
understanding of this is not that Disetronic is trying to rob us of our old
pumps,
but they are just trying to comply with the demands the FDA has placed on
them.

One of the reasons I chose the Spirit was because they offer a back-up pump.
No other company offers the option of a back up pump. Although the life is
only 180 days, that was O.K. with me because I will use it only as a back-up.
If my primary pump needs to be sent in, I can put the battery in the back-up
pump and not need to go back on MDI for a day or more. I was instructed that
when the back-up pump is not in use, take the battery out and the timer is
not ticking. Even if the pump must be serviced once a year, if the
turn-a-round time is 1 day, that is a lot of years I will have a back-up pump.
To me,
that has some value.

Your comment that Disetronic isn't giving much, what would you like them to
give you?
.
