Your CDE, like most medical professionals, is giving you the most conservative
procedure. It's called protecting their backside in the rare instance that
there was any problems at all. However, in the real world most of us change it
only when the lancet feels dull and have never had a problem with doing it this
way. I change every few weeks, sometimes once a month. Been doing it this way
since I first started BG testing in the 1980's. Never had anything that was
even close to an infection.
I've talked to CDE's and doctors about this and they admit that though they
MUST tell you the "change every poke" instruction, they will often "wink" and
say that they know this is overkill. But, to keep themselves from even remotely
getting themselves in trouble, they'll always tell you the method that follows
"official policy". Personally, I think you risk much more infection from dirty
hands than from re-using lancets.
