[IP] RE: the diabetic label

Personally, I don't like the term "diabetic" because it is an old and
politically incorrect label that refers to someone by their condition which,
to my knowledge, is done with very few other conditions short of "alcoholic"
and "smoker".

I all honestly, however, I dislike the term "control" more than the term
"diabetic". Since we can only control food, exercise and insulin taken, any
of the dozens of other factors that can impact blood glucose levels are
totally outside of our ability to control them, I prefer to use the term
"manage" my diabetes. Control implies that the ability is absolute, while the
term manage implies that you do the best with the tools that are available.

To be honest, after 28 years of living with the condition and the term
diabetic, I don't spend a lot of time agonizing over it. We could be called a
lot worse!
