Maybe Halle Berry's diabetes is Type 1B?  The definition for Type 1B (see my
earlier 10/19) would fit what limited information we know about her:

1.  She initially presented with all the symptoms of a Type 1 in DKA.
2.  She was initially treated with insulin, but now supposedly takes a pill.
3.  African-Americans are more likely to get Type 1B than Caucasians.

Just a thought.  Doesn't seem like she would be a Type 2 because of the DKA.
But if she were a Type 1A, she would still need insulin.
