 Type one diabetes can cause stunted growth, however, if it is not well
controlled. In general, IF a child has very poor control (A1c >10%) over a long
period of time, the growth can be stunted.
 This is not because of high sugars...can be, but generally isn't, but because
the body is not effectively using the calories the child is taking in. With no
insulin present, or insufficient amounts, the body does not convert the food to
useable energy.
