Running in the back of my mind on the coke thing ... is that Texas is in the
process of banning food items with empty calories from schools.

You'll probably have to register, but basically, that Foods of Minimal
Nutritional Value are being banned for elementary schools and limited in
middle schools and high schools, so in Texas,  serving regular soft drinks
at the dance might be pushing it.  Your state might be doing something
similar.

required elementary schools to ban FMNVs from campus. Teachers can't give
away carbonated soft drinks or the candies that fall under FMNV.

Ms. Combs also has limited availability of FMNVs in Texas junior high
schools.
